Match-Up! Seiko Vs Meccaniche Veneziane – 2 Men’s Cocktail Watches – My Wife’s Take

Now if you’ve read everything above you probably know where this is going but let’s see exactly what my wife thought of both these watches!

Her: Takes both watches and starts to eye each up.
Me: “Wait! I’m not setup to take notes yet and I want to get all of your thoughts down on paper!”
Her: Laughs and says nothing!
The next day…
Me: “Okay lets talk men’s cocktail watches…” I hand her the MV Burano, “Tell me what you like and dislike about this watch”

Her: “Well… I like the gold numbers… its pretty unspectacular though… there’s nothing really special about it… the cream colour in the back [dial] is nice; I think the Swiss Made at the 6 o’clock looks cheap, it just looks like Made in China, this isn’t a newspaper, you don’t need all the writing on the front [Redentore, Automatico], it should be on the back; HA! IT EVEN SAYS SWISS MADE ON THE BACK!” she exclaims. “The hands on the dial look too long, like they’re over exaggerated and the points are too severe. The red and blue clash, they don’t go together. It’s too much blue for me.”

“This is kind of like two different kinds of college guys; the asshole… and the nerd, who gets beat up by the asshole.

Me: I smile, nod, take back the Burano and give her the Seiko Presage (I still love you Burano), “Right now I know you like this one, and be honest, but tell me what you like AND dislike about it and then I’ll get your impressions of them side by side.”

Her: “I don’t love the watch, I love the band, this,” starts slapping the strap against her wrist smiling, “this this this, what is it called?” I answer the strap “Yes the strap! These one’s cool though,” holding up the watch body itself now, “I like the hours, they’re neat. All the information is little, minimalist, like the Made in Japan and the writing [Presage, Automatic]. The dial has a lot going on though. The second hand has a little diamond on it which I think is cool. You know what I think would be fun, if all the little cogs in the back all had different colors; like this one has a gold color [rotor]; like if each layer was in a different color. That would be so cool and it would help people who don’t know watches because it would help showcase the different parts of the watch [movement] in a way that would be really cool.” Flipping the watch back over once more she considers the watch again one final time, “Its sharp overall, it kind of reminds me of a knights armor; like there are different dimensions to all of the parts [of the dial] and just looks like to me their was more thought put into it.” And I really like the strap; its soft and you won’t have to worry about wrecking it if you over tighten it or you have large wrists.

Me: I hand her back the Burano, “So now that you have both what are your impressions of the two side by side.”
Her: “This is kind of like two different kinds of college guys; the asshole… and the nerd, who gets beat up by the asshole. Like one is practical and one is flashy. I’ll let you be the judge of which one is which!”
